Letter: Urges support for protection for children born alive

The Item State Rep. Marc Lombardo recently filed a bill in the Massachusetts General Court HD1570, “An Act relative to the protection for children born alive.” The bill has the support of six other Republicans. There are no Democrats supporting the bill since it seeks to reverse policies they slipped into the budget bill in November 2020. Their policies removed the requirement that attempts must be made to preserve the life of a baby who survives abortion; established that abortions could be allowed after the 24th week of pregnancy; and removed the need for parental consent. I understand partisanship, but I do not understand what argument could possibly be made against attempting to save the life of a baby who has survived an abortion.
