The Minister has capacity for greatness

A lot of
Irish Medical Times readers would have little or no faith in Minister Stephen Donnelly. And that’s understandable. He has gotten a lot of things wrong in his short tenure as Minister for Health.
But I have great belief that, in the end, he will be recognised as one of the best Ministers because he had courage, intelligence and fortitude – especially when it came to overcoming political wrangling, and acting on the evidence. He may well do this for his own political benefit, but we are not concerned with his motivations here. We have much, much bigger fish to fry. We have the lives of patients in our hands.
