Missouri man charged in fatal Alton shooting

EDWARDSVILLE A Missouri man was charged Wednesday in the fatal shooting in Alton over the weekend.
Arvin W. Freeman, 44, of Springfield, Missouri, was charged Feb. 17 with two counts of first degree murder, in the shooting death of Robert Woods on Feb. 13.
Each count represents an alternative theory of the murder.
The shooting occurred just after noon Saturday. According to Alton Police Chief Marcos Pulido, police responded to 11th Street near Alby Street for a “trouble” call, but started receiving reports of gunshots being fired while enroute.
The victim, identified in the charges as Robert Woods, was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. No other information on Woods was available.

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill A former Alton police officer has been charged in connection with a deadly crash that happened in November 2020.
Ashley Roever, of Bethalto, Illinois, has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol for a deadly crash that happened on Nov. 14, 2020. Toshorn D. Napper, 31, was killed in the crash.
According to court documents from St. Clair County, Roever was allegedly driving north on Illinois Route 3 in Sauget in a GMC Sierra when she hit a GMC Envoy that was being driven by Napper.

BELLEVILLE A former Alton police officer was charged Tuesday in connection to the death of a Cahokia man in an alleged drunk driving accident in St. Clair County.
Ashley Roever, 32, of Bethalto, was charged by the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol. The case was presented by the Sauget Police Department and Illinois State Police.

ALTON Police are investigating a single-vehicle accident Friday night.
Alton Police Chief Marcos Pulido said that, at about 9 p.m. Friday, city police and fire departments responded to the 3200 block of Brown Street involving a pickup truck. The driver, whose name has not been released, was going east on Brown Street approaching Milton Street and failed to negotiate a turn.
The vehicle subsequently struck a tree and powerlines, Pulido said. The driver was transported to an Alton hospital and then taken by Arch air medical services to a St. Louis area hospital. The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Pulido said.
