It was a wet night in the North East so there weren’t a lot of completed ball games to discuss, but the Baby Jays did see a 1-2 record with a suspended game and a postponed game.
Buffalo
(12-7) - Game suspended in the Top of 4. Buffalo is leading 2-0
Buffalo took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning as Nash Knight homered and then Richard Urena reached on a fielders choice, went first to third on a Breyvic Valera single and scored on a wild pitch. Jacob Waguespack started and looked good through 3, allowing a single and hit a batter, while striking out 4. Buffalo will need 6 innings from the bullpen to complete this game.

Jose Antonio Bautista | RF, 3B | 2008-2017
Jose Bautista was born on October 19, 1980, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He was the
Pirates 20th round draft pick in the 2000 draft. Jose played college ball in the states, making him eligible for the draft.
The
Orioles took Jose in the Rule 5 draft before the 2004 season. He played a handful of games with them, and then the
Rays claimed him off waivers. From there he went to the
Royals,
On August 21, 2008, the
Blue Jays traded
Robinzon Diaz to the Pirates for Bautista. I had just started writing for BBB a couple of months before that. Our poll on the trade had 48% saying it was a good trade and 52% saying bad. That shows why we aren’t working in the scouting department. Jose played in 21 games at the end of the season, hitting .214/.237/.411.

If you take a quick glance at Aaron Civale’s 2021 numbers, nothing looks out of the ordinary. Yes, the 2.18 ERA signals a stellar start, but with strikeout and walk rates relatively in line with his career numbers, you wouldn’t suspect that Civale has undergone a host of changes to both his repertoire and his delivery. But look beyond the numbers to the guy on the field, and it’s clear that he’s undergone a rather obvious change in his process and approach, one that merits further analysis.
Coming into the season, Civale was mainly a sinkerballer, though that requires a rather liberal definition of the word “mainly.” Civale threw his sinker, cutter, and curveball to batters of both handedness, and supplemented those main offerings with a side of slider to righties and a side of changeups to lefties. That mix of speeds and movements put him in an interesting class of pitcher:

Velocity is all the rage these days, and why shouldn’t it be? It’s fun to see that third digit light up on a radar gun or show up on the scoreboard. And it’s happening more often than ever. From Opening Day through the weekend, eight pitchers combined for a total of 28 pitches over 100 mph, with Emmanuel Clase hitting the mark nine times out of the 11 cutting fastballs he threw on Sunday. It’s certainly exciting, but velocity isn’t everything. Yes, I want to know how hard someone is throwing when evaluating a pitcher, but my first question after that is what is the shape of the pitch?

After being acquired by the New York Mets this offseason, superstar shortstop Francisco Lindor set an Opening Day deadline for a long term contract extension with the team. Tonight, about 30 minutes before the clock struck midnight and brought upon Opening Day 2021, the Mets and Lindor have reached that agreement.
