Llandudno RNLI volunteer passes helm in high level lifeboat crew

AN RNLI volunteer has been praised after completing his helm training program at Llandudno Lifeboat Station. Adam Finch-Saunders was assessed on the numerous different challenges of overseeing a D-Class inshore lifeboat, the Dr Barbara Saunderson, which is a highly manoeuvrable and usually operates close to shore. The boat and its crew are vital for searches and rescues in the surf, shallow water and confined locations - often close to cliffs, among rocks and even inside caves. Mr Finch-Saunders is a member of the D-class inshore lifeboat crew, which operates close to the shore and cliffs. These activities demand an extremely high level of competence and experience from the volunteer crews involved.

Llandudno Lifeboat Helm joins training team | North Wales Pioneer

THE RNLI has unveiled its newest Training Assessor for Llandudno Lifeboat Station. Mike Jones has recently passed out as a Training Assessor joining Robin Holden, Les Jones, Tim James, and John ‘Oggi’ Roberts who collectively provide training required at Llandudno. In the RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews train together every week, at sea and ashore. Weekly RNLI training exercises focus on teamwork, technical competence and safe operating procedures covering everything from boat-handling, search and rescue, and navigation, to radar training, radio communications and casualty care. Robin Holden, retired Station Coxswain, who coordinates the training at Llandudno, said: John and I arrange all of the individual training plans, while serving Coxswains Les and Tim and now Mike conduct the assessments to ensure the crew meet the required standards of operational competence.
