LaMarcus Aldridge was forced into early retirement recently due to health concerns.
Aldridge had only recently signed for the Brooklyn Nets after getting bought out by the San Antonio Spurs. Despite only playing five games for the Nets he looked like he was going to be a key member of the roster and had a great chance of winning his first championship.
The 35-year-old revealed in his retirement letter that he had concerning health problems in his last game for the Nets, against the Los Angeles Lakers. My last game, I played while dealing with an irregular heartbeat.

DeAndre Jordan finished Friday s win vs. Charlotte with eight points, five rebounds and one block in 17 minutes. LaMarcus Aldridge s retirement has presented Jordan with a path back into the starting lineup, where he s been the past two games. The bad news is that he ll alternate with Nicolas Claxton, Blake Griffin and Jeff Green based upon matchups, with coach Steve Nash saying it s more matchup-based, so this is a value-killing timeshare. Jordan wasn t a standard-league fantasy option prior to the arrival of Aldridge and Griffin, so there s no reason to think he ll make a late surge.

Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
So after the Spurs sleepwalked to a disappointing loss to a bad team on Wednesday, they’re back home, which has been anything but sweet, to face an actually good team. The Spurs have been awful this year at home, and although they’ve had a few solid games, they’re often followed up by frustrating relapses into mediocrity. Mediocrity (or worse) won’t get it done tonight against the Trail Blazers, who are in 6th place in the west, breathing heavily on the coattails of the struggling Lakers, who are still holding on to 5th despite missing their two best players for a while.

The Brooklyn Nets are some would say they are a super team of the NBA this season adding Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden to their roster. They are well on their way to winning an NBA championship with that much caliber. Aldridge joined the team on March 21 shortly after the trade deadline.

In 2010, four years into a rapidly blossoming NBA career, LaMarcus Aldridge faced a health crisis. His mother, Georgia, was diagnosed with breast cancer, a diagnosis she shared with her youngest son just days before he was set to report to training camp in Portland. Aldridge, family members told me back then, was a rock. He told them it was his responsibility to keep her spirits up, a role he took as seriously as he did his duties as the Trail Blazers budding franchise player.
