SOUTH BEND, Ind. The grass isn’t always greener somewhere else. For Chicago’s Houston Griffith, it took 18 days in the transfer portal in January to realize that before the talented safety ultimately opted to return for his senior season at Notre Dame. Three weeks into spring practice, that turn of events seems to be playing out to the benefit of both him and the program. “I felt like two things needed to happen for Houston: opportunity and then making the best of the opportunity,” Irish coach Brian Kelly said. “What is making the best? What does that equal? I think a lot of that has been just an awareness of the situation that he’s in and using what I think is outstanding athletic ability and applying it to the particular situation.”

Notre Dame s hard push with the 2023 class continued this past week when the Irish offered up-and-coming safety
Jack Luttrell from Dacula (Ga.) Hebron Christian Academy.
Towards the end of March, Luttrell picked up his first offer from Arkansas, and roughly one week later Notre Dame entered the mix as Luttrell s second scholarship of the process.
“With Notre Dame, I called them and they basically said once they watched my film, I was one of their top prospects on their board for 2023,” Luttrell told Irish Breakdown. “I called them that next Wednesday, and that’s when they offered me. It was awesome!”

Marcus Freeman.
Burnham dominated on both sides of the ball for the Trojans, thriving as one of the nation s best linebackers, and he was also the team s quarterback. He racked up 76 tackles and made five stops behind the line on defense, and on offense he passed for 1,215 yards, rushed for 903 yards and accounted for 34 touchdowns while leading TCC to a 9-2 record.
The Traverse City Central star ranks as the nation s No. 85 overall player according to 247Sports, and Burnham is ranked as the sixth best outside linebacker in the land.
The world is imperfect, human beings are imperfect, and racial prejudice is still a feature of American life in 2021. These are hard truths. But so are these: Our country legally banned de jure segregation in 1954, made virtually all discrimination formally illegal in 1964, and has practiced pro-minority affirmative action since 1967. Simply put, these efforts to address the results of racial animus have worked, to a degree that is, for complex reasons, rarely discussed. But facts are facts. In 2021 America, it is not, objectively speaking, extraordinarily hard for a person of any skin tone to “make it.”
Seven of the wealthiest eight ethnic groups in the U.S. today are populations of color, even as affirmative action broadly defined serves as a counterbalance to much of the residual bigotry within society (though it is the cause of other kinds of social conflicts). In the real world, simply adjusting mathematically for mundane characteristics such as median age and study time cl
