A second grant from Houston-based Episcopal Health Foundation is aiming to address health issues in Bastrop County.
On Feb. 4, Central Texas Interfaith announced it received a $300,000 grant from the foundation to build sustainable organizing clusters in Bastrop, Brazos, McLennan and Williamson counties as well as in western Travis County.
The grant and organizing clusters will help CTI a non-partisan, multi-issue coalition of 50 congregations, labor organizations, nonprofits and schools continue to expand into a 10-county Central Texas region with a focus on health and well-being issues.
“This grant invests in the development of ordinary leaders in working class and marginalized communities across the region to secure their family’s health and well-being,” said Doug Greco, the lead organizer of CTI. “It doubles down on CTI’s organizing work in building non-partisan constituencies in legislative districts across the 10-county area.”

The Bastrop County Sheriff s Office is sending a warning to the public about phone extortion scams after making an arrest in a robbery case. Occasionally, the sheriff’s office investigates a case that is especially gratifying, Sheriff Maurice Cook said. I’m sure all of us have received threatening phone calls; the threat may be for arrest from someone saying they are the IRS, a plea by someone saying a loved one has been arrested, be threatened with deportation, or any other of the various scams. All have a common pattern: the caller is demanding that you send cash to some address, or that you place money on a prepaid card, or have cash that someone will come by and pick up.

East Suffolk Council s cabinet has backed a freeze on council tax for 2021/22 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic

A freeze on East Suffolk Council s portion of the council tax bill has been agreed by the authority s cabinet, citing the financial challenges many are facing from the Covid-19 pandemic as a key reason.
The authority
last week unveiled its first draft budget at its scrutiny committee meeting, in which it proposed to keep the council tax level for 2021/22 at the same level as this year - £171.27 for a Band D property.
The council s cabinet on Tuesday night agreed to that rate, with a final decision on February 24 by full council.
