Hawaii Tourism plans for Maui, Molokai and Lanai

The Destination Management Action Plan will serve as a guide to rebuild, redefine, and reset the direction of tourism on the three islands that make up Maui Nui.
Focus is on key actions that the community, visitor industry, and other sectors deem necessary over a three-year period.
Actions are based on four interacting pillars – Natural Resources, Hawaiian Culture, Community, and Brand Marketing.
The Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) has published the 2021-2023 Maui Nui Destination Management Action Plan (DMAP). It is part of HTA’s strategic vision and continuing efforts to manage tourism in a responsible and regenerative manner. It was developed by the residents of Maui, Molokai and Lanai, and in partnership with the County of Maui and Maui Visitors and Convention Bureau (MVCB). Transportation and public works officials from Hawaii County and Oregon will share road safety lessons from their own communities during a virtual town hall for Maui residents on Thursday.
The Vision Zero Virtual Town Hall, hosted by the Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization, will take place at 4 p.m. via Zoom with a focus on reducing traffic fatalities to zero.
Matt Rodrigues, public works director from Eugene, Ore., will share key lessons from the city’s Vision Zero Initiative, while Natasha Soriano, transportation planner from Hawaii County, will also share takeaways from the island’s Vision Zero Action Plan.
The event will also feature remarks from U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz, Gov. David Ige and Maui County Mayor Michael Victorino.

KAHULUI They may not be hosting the packed crowds that swarmed the Maui Swap Meet at this time last year, but the new Kahului Swap Meet held Saturdays at Maui Marketplace and the Maui Gift & Craft Fair held Sundays at Lahaina Gateway represent lifelines to vendors who have seen their livelihoods “devastated” by the downturn in business caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
