Kolkata: On March 9, a day before submitting her nomination papers for the Nandigram assembly constituency, chief minister Mamata Banerjee addressed a workersâ gathering with local organisers.
While cautioning her partyâs workers to stay alert of BJPâs efforts to divide people in the name of religion, she said, âSome people will try to create divisions by talking of 70-30. Tell them we are 100. I, too, have a surname. But should I ponder as to why I, Mamata Banerjee, am a daughter of a Brahmin family…Brahmin, Scheduled Caste, Muslimâ¦these identities should not matter.â
Ranchi: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Thursday sought a high-level probe into the alleged attack on his West Bengal counterpart, Mamata Banerjee, in Nandigram on Wednesday even as her detractors have dubbed the incident as “stage-managed” to gain sympathy ahead of the first phase of assembly elections in the neighbouring state on March 27.
Expressing concern over the attack, Soren tweeted, “Concerned & disturbed to know about the foot injury & hospitalisation of @MamataOfficial Didi during her election campaign in Nandigram. A high-level investigation should be conducted to identify those behind this incident & punished. I wish her a speedy and healthy recovery.”
Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party president Arvind Kejriwal had also joined the chorus in condemning the attack on Banerjee. In a tweet, Kejriwal wrote, “I strongly condemn the attack on Mamata Didi. Those responsible should be immediately arrested and punished. I pray for her speedy recovery.”
