The pandemic has put travel out of reach for so long. With more Americans getting vaccinated, travel to a beach paradise, where you trade the hubbub and crowds of major tourist attractions for relaxing waves and soft sand, is on many travel wish lists again.
Travel site Tripadvisor recently surveyed 2,330 consumers in six countries and found that 60% of travelers are “very likely” to take a beach trip this year.
This list of the site’s Travelers Choice Best of the Best Award for beaches is based on Tripadvisor users’ reviews, ratings and “saves” in 2020.

Once lagging behind the rest of the state, Maui County has caught up in administering COVID-19 vaccines, with rural areas such as Lanai, Molokai and Hana nearing herd immunity, Mayor Michael Victorino said.
As of Thursday, 49 percent of Maui County’s population over 18 had received at least one dose of the vaccine, second to Kauai County’s state-leading 57 percent. Hawaii County is at 47 percent, while Honolulu County is at 43 percent.
Latest developments:
⢠State Department of Health on Sunday reported 111 new cases statewide, including 93 on Oahu, 10 on Maui, six on Hawaii island and two residents diagnosed out of state.
⢠There have now been 31,381 cases statewide, including 24,134 on Oahu, 3,393 in Maui County (3,247 on Maui, 111 on Lanai and 35 on Molokai), 2,642 on Hawaii island and 200 on Kauai. A total of 1,012 residents have been diagnosed out of state.
⢠No new deaths were reported; there remain 474 fatalities statewide, including 370 on Oahu, 53 on Hawaii island, 47 on Maui, one on Kauai and three residents who died out of state.
⢠Maui Health will begin offering Moderna vaccines for all first-dose appointments at its Grand Wailea clinic starting Wednesday. Residents who received their first Pfizer dose at the clinic can still receive their second Pfizer dose at the same site.

For about a week now, appointments have gone unfilled at state Department of Health vaccine clinics in Kahului, mere months after people once waited hours in line to get a shot and were sometimes turned away as demand overwhelmed the clinic.
