17-year-old drowns in Joe Pool Lake By FOX 4 Staff GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - A 17-year-old drowned while swimming in Joe Pool Lake Friday evening. The Grand Prairie Fire Department was called out to the scene just after 6 p.m. Crews were told that the teen was seen swimming near a beach area, but did not resurface. Divers searched the area and were able to find the 17-year-old, and Elijah Lamar Cooper was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but he was later pronounced dead. Authorities said he was not wearing a life vest, and was underwater for about 30 minutes before he was found.

City of Grand Prairie Increases Ambulance Subscription Program Share via: Ambulance Subscription Program Increases To $100 June 1 The city of Grand Prairie announced today that to be in compliance with the Office of Inspector General’s Anti-kickback Statute, and to ensure the program’s sustainability, they are  increasing its Ambulance Subscription Program annual fee from the current $75.00 annually per household to $100.00 annually per household, effective June 1, 2021. Since August of 2000, the City has proudly responded to citizens and visitors with emergency medical services provided by the Grand Prairie Fire Department (GPFD). The subscription membership program is offered as an option to Grand Prairie residents. Medical emergencies are expensive and this program exists to help ease the burden of non-covered and cost-sharing expenses related to the ambulance ground transport process.

Focus Daily News Grand Prairie Drowning Call Results In Recovery of Body The City of Grand Prairie Public Safety Dive Team recovered the body of a 75-year-old male today. At approximately 5:00 p.m. yesterday, the Grand Prairie Fire Department responded to a possible drowning call at Joe Pool Lake. Multiple witness reports indicate the male dove off a boat and did not resurface at the Estes Peninsula cove area, where his female companion attempted to help but was unsuccessful. Grand Prairie divers initiated a search and rescue for the person until dark on Saturday, but the high winds challenged the recovery as well as an unknown last known location. Divers resumed operations on Sunday morning and, utilizing sonar technology, recovered the body at the Estes Peninsula cove location where he was pronounced deceased. The male was not wearing a life vest.
