Lake District attractions starring role in Channel 5 programme with Susan Calman

Comedian Susan Calman will take Channel 5 viewers on a tour of the Lake District on Friday. The Scottish stand-up comic and radio panel show favourite will be exploring Cumbria in Susan Calman’s Grand Day Out from 8pm. Starting at Ullswater alongside her trusty campervan Helen, the presenter finds herself exploring everything the county has to offer, as well as delving deep into the landscape’s heritage and culture. The national park’s scenery plays a starring role, with Susan experiencing Ullswater from the deck of the 19th century Lady of the Lake alongside Ullswater ‘Steamers’ skipper Graeme Connacher. She also takes a trip on the La’al Ratty railway, in its new panoramic viewing cabin.

Tonight s TV: Susan Calman s Grand Day Out and Would I Lie to You?

Jamie And Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast (Channel 4, 8pm) IF you think some people are getting rather too close to each other during the new run of Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty’s popular series, that’s probably because it was filmed in 2019, when none of us had even heard of the coronavirus. The first celebrity visitor to their bistro on Southend Pier is comedian Jack Dee, who shares tales of his time as a chef at the Ritz. Oliver also prepares a meal involving rotisserie chicken that brings back memories of childhood camping holidays for Dee. Susan Calman’s Grand Day Out (Channel 5, 8pm)

A Discovery of Witches 9pm, Sky One This gothic supernatural drama, adapted from Deborah Harkness’s bestselling All Souls books, returns for a second season. Diana (Teresa Palmer), a reluctant witch, is still trying to come to terms with her powers, with the help of Matthew (Matthew Goode), a vampire; they have travelled back in time secretly to make their home in Elizabethan London. The pair are on the hunt for the Book of Life, but soon Matthew’s boss catches up with them and tries to convince him to go back to his job: spying for the Queen. Ammar Kalia
