Vaccinated: Jackson Hole s ski patrol, Search and Rescue

Amid the hustle and bustle of a Tuesday morning vaccination clinic in late December, Tom Ferris, a 25-year veteran of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s ski patrol, became one of the first few thousand people in Teton County to get a vaccine against COVID-19. “I know I speak for all of us: We feel fortunate to be on the list,” the 61-year-old said shortly after getting his first jab. “I’m just hopeful that it becomes available for everybody soon.” This week and next, ski patrollers and Teton County Search and Rescue volunteers who accepted their first vaccine dose are getting their booster shot. That’s intended to augment the immune response the first dose created, bringing inoculations up to full efficacy.

TVSEF announces adult league, awards scholarships

Targhee Cup Adult Race League Grand Targhee Resort and the Teton Valley Ski Education Foundation are teaming up again this winter to host the Targhee Cup adult race league. Races will take place every Thursday from February 11 through March 4. Local teams will have the opportunity to race the gates with neighbors, family, friends, co-workers and bitter rivals. Settle once and for all who really is the fastest on the hill.this season! The Targhee Cup consists of four races down Palmer’s Raceway. It’s a fun and social adult race league. Courses will be set to accommodate skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. Each team can have up to 6 members, 1 must be of the opposite gender, and 2 alternates are permitted but must be on the roster or ski under the original member’s name. An optional inspection (sideslip) will be held from 1:30-2pm each race day. Every competitor will get 2 runs between 2-4pm. The top finish time of those 2 runs will be the result for the day. Hik

Fundraiser keeping these paws in action

There’s little doubt that this team is the cutest on the hill at Grand Targhee Resort, but these four-legged, cold-nosed patrollers aren’t just here for the ear scratches. These highly-trained canines have a critical job: the GTK9 squad is always ready for avalanche rescues. The avalanche dog program, started in the mid-1990s, is an integral part of the ski patrol at Grand Targhee Resort. Keeping the program up and running depends on the support of donors, explains lead handler Casey O’Connor. Typically, the nonprofit hosts an in-person fundraising event known as the “Powder Pig” Fundraiser. Of course, the pandemic has forced the organization to reimagine their efforts this year, and they’ve shifted the event online.
