Govt delegation meets Arab protestors in El Geneina on February 7 (SUNA)
Sennar state, South, West, North, and East Darfur, and North and West Kordofan declared a State of Emergency on Thursday following a number of demonstrations that took place in several parts of Sudan, to denounce deteriorating living conditions, inflation, and the scarcity of basic commodities.
The wali (governor) of Sennar and Chairman of the Empowerment Elimination, Anti-Corruption, and Funds Recovery Committee, El Mahi Mohamed Suleiman, indicated that the security services have monitored the movements and meetings of the remnants of the former regime in separate places in Sennar state that resulted in the planning of incidents of robbery, looting, and encroachment on the property and money of citizens in defiance of the law.

Darfur witnessed more unrests as protests turned violent in the city of Ed Daein, East Darfur, yesterday. A 10-year-old child was killed by stray bullets during clashes between student protesters and the security forces. In North Darfur, authorities attempt to restore calm after violent events took place earlier this week.
Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that the protesters looted several shops south-east of the Grand Market and near the railway. They also said that protesters burned several vehicles and buildings belonging to state radio and television channels and the Ministry of Finance.

The sound of gunfire has ceased in El Geneina, prompting a cautious calm upon the arrival of large military reinforcements yesterday, after 162 people were killed and at least 200 injured in attacks in on the West Darfur capital last weekend.
More than 200 people were killed and 240 injured as a result of attacks on El Geneina and El Tawil village this week in South Darfur, according to Sudan’s Ministry of Health and Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC). In the attack on El Tawil village by Rizeigat gunmen, 56 people were killed and 42 were injured.
