Another financial boost going to our local school board.
MPP Toby Barrett announced that the Ontario government is providing over $313 million to the Grand Erie District School Board while the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board is set to receive over $132 million.
The GEDSB is seeing a $8.8 million boost over last year while the Catholic board is getting a $4.7 million increase.
This funding is through the Grants for Students Needs program, with both schools receiving millions more than they did a year ago.
This week, the Ontario government announced new support for a safe and successful 2021-22 school year, including an additional $1.6 billion in resources to protect against COVID-19 and $561 million more in ongoing investments in public education for the 2021-22 school year through the GSN.

Longtime Brantford-Brant MP Phil McColeman is backing Larry Brock to be the Conservative Party candidate in the next federal election.
McColeman announced his retirement in January, saying he wouldn’t run for re-election. He has held the seat since 2008.

Brock, a lawyer and assistant Crown attorney for Brant, announced is candidacy for the Conservative nomination in January.
McColeman said Brock has been one of the party’s “most significant volunteers.”
“He had a passion to knock on doors, engage with people and persuade them to vote Conservative,” said McColeman in a news release. “He covered more ground than anyone else.”
