Lester said the average monthly salary of a Black player in the early 1920s was $175 a month. Rookies earned $75 and the stars $375. They received between $1 to $1.50 a day for meal money.
Major league players received from $300 to $2,000 a month and about $15 a day for meals. That s about five times more in salary than Black players.
In 1924, the first year of the Colored World Series, the share of the winners, the Kansas City Monarchs, was $307.96, says Lester. The Hilldale Club, the team that lost, took home $193.23.
The World Series winners that same year earned $5,959.64 and the losers $3,820.29. That s almost 19 times what the Black players received.

A long-overdue correction to a 51-year-old bad decision. In attempting to unify and regulate the baseball record book in 1969, Major League Baseball identified and consolidated records from over a half-dozen professional circuits. The effort resulted in perhaps the most robust and studied set of statistics in professional sports but left out black players from the era when MLB clubs refused to allow them to play.

Willie Mays will add some hits to his record, Monte Irvin’s big-league batting average should climb over .300 and Satchel Paige may add nearly 150 victories to his total.
Josh Gibson, the greatest of all Negro League sluggers, might just wind up with a major league record, too.
The statistics and records of greats like Gibson, Paige and roughly 3,400 other players are set to join Major League Baseball’s books after MLB announced Wednesday it is reclassifying the Negro Leagues as a major league.

FDA plans to OK 2nd COVID-19 vaccine after panel endorsement
WASHINGTON (AP) â The head of the Food and Drug Administration said late Thursday that his agency will move to quickly authorize the second COVID-19 vaccine to fight the pandemic, hours after the shot won the key endorsement of a government advisory panel.
FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn said in a statement that regulators have communicated their plans to drugmaker Moderna, which co-developed the vaccine with the National Institutes of Health. The announcement came after a panel of FDA advisers, in a 20-0 vote, ruled that the benefits of the vaccine outweighed the risks for those 18 years old and up.
