Less than a year ago, Hannah Matterson was appointed the new CEO of Generator, the music, digital creative and tech agency.
She replaced Jim Mawdsley, having worked on a range of music projects and culture bodies before taking up her first CEO role. Prior to Generator, Hannah spent time at a Sunderland community music project, the Music Arts and Culture Trust in Sunderland, Sage Gateshead, and Manchester Metropolitan University.
Generator celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, originally launching as a music development agency and growing into a full-scale support agency for the thriving music and creative digital industries in the North East. Their dedicated team is driven by a shared passion for creativity in the region, and works alongside a range of partners to make a real impact on the industry.
Students threaten ‘rent strike’ after some forced to pay more than $4,000
In America, the CDC has banned evictions at least through the end of the month, due to the economic carnage on millions of livelihoods caused by government COVID-19 restrictions.
In the U.K., some university students are being forced to pay for campus housing even though they are
banned from returning to campus.
The Daily Mail reports that students at University of Manchester, Salford University and Manchester Metropolitan are threatening a “rent strike” after some have been ordered to pay up to £3,000, or more than $4,000, for accommodations they aren’t allowed to use.

Antisemitism: How the Origins of History’s Oldest Hatred Still Hold Sway Today – Podcast
This is the audio version of an in depth article from The Conversation, which explores how prejudice against Jews has persisted throughout history.
There has been a surge in antisemitic incidents across the globe. Antisemitism rears its ugly head in every aspect of public life, whether internal debates within political parties or accusations of conspiratorial networks or plots in politics and business.
Thousands of university students are currently on rent strike and planned to do so even before the lockdown announcement. Students at over 30 unis are asking for rent rebates in the biggest strike in 40 years, because they are not permitted to return on-site and live in their accommodation.
After students at university began setting up their own rent strike groups, weeks of campaigning, and a lockdown announcement that seemed to mention everyone in the country except students, universities are finally listening. Institutions are beginning to announce potential plans for lowering or scrapping rent.
While some haven’t begun to draw up plans for next term’s rent, others have gone as far as to reveal they will not be charging rent at all while students are away. We will be continually updating this list of rent rebate policies across the country.
Maya Olsen has the kind of knockout personal style that people literally stop her in the street to admire.
The stylist has an impeccable eye for picking up quirky, unusual pieces and now she has launched her own website, Nobody’s Empire, which, she says, “is a land where vintage rules”.
The day we chat, Maya is on the receiving end of lots of admiring glances on Dublin’s fashion-forward Drury Street for her Versace-esque boots which, for the record, she picked up on Depop.
I wasn’t at all surprised to discover that Maya hails from Seattle, one of the best places in America to pick up seriously good vintage.
