Nine of ten registered voters cast ballots in two northern California counties, making them the state’s highest turnout counties in the November 2020 election.
Sonoma County had the highest turnout at an impressive 90.49% of registered voters.
The statewide average? 81%.
While Northern California claims the record turnout among California’s 58 counties, a CalMatters analysis of the state’s 12 most populated counties revealed a precinct in Sun City Palm Desert, a retirement community in Southern California, that boasts a voter turnout of about 96%.
Portion of Project Homekey dollars to help Eastern Coachella families
On Tuesday Riverside County Sup. Manuel Perez announced that federal CARES Act dollars and state money from Project Homekey would be allocated for the Eastern Coachella Valley.
Originally many local leaders were pushing to convert Palm Springs hotel Ivy Palm, located at 2000 N. Palm Canyon Drive, into low-income permanent housing from the Project Homekey funds. The program is designated to help Californians who are impacted by COVID-19 and facing homelessness.
According to a press release issued by Sup. Perez office, The county’s offer for the Ivy Palm Hotel was accepted by the owner, but the sale was denied by the bankruptcy court on Dec. 8.
HCA released a statement saying the strike threatens to seriously impact the overburdened healthcare system in Southern California, which is already at bed and ICU capacities due to the nursing shortage and COVID-19 surge. As a result of the union s decision to strike at this challenging time, our hospitals must limit their full scope of services in order to ensure nurses are available to care for patients with the highest needs, the statement reads.
In previous work stoppages at RCH, nurses have taken part in rotating pickets, with some still on the job, while others gather in front of the medical center. There was a walkout over the summer.
Riverside County leaders discuss COVID vaccine timeline
Riverside County could receive more than 14,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine as soon as Tuesday, county health officials revealed on Friday.
Although health officials say it won t be a cure-all right away, it could help as county and state ICU capacities are pushed to the limit. Our current ICU utilization is about 95% so we have about 5% of our licensed ICU capacity together, said Bruce Barton, Director of Emergency Services for Riverside County.
Resources have been stretched thin as hospitals throughout Riverside County struggle for adequate staffing.
