Jamie Munguia vs Maciej Sulęcki is back on for the summer after their original date fell through.
Munguia was set to face Sulecki in a middleweight contest on April 23 before the latter had to withdraw due to an injury. D’Mitrius Ballard was briefly installed as a replacement before he, too, suffered an injury and was forced to withdraw.
Many considered Sulecki to be the more interesting opponent for Munguia, and all things considered Sulecki is a serviceable test for his third fight at a new weight class. Munguia’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya expressed his excitement for the return of one of his young stars.
“SNAKE!” we cry out.
Each time we see them we want to – well – kill them. Husbands run to the wood shed to get axes and rakes and send the women and children inside. Some quickly head for the gun closet to secure the 30-30 rifle which they haven’t used since their last hunt but is ready to go for occasions such as this – SNAKES!
Moreno Hinojosa’s book comes just in time for “snake season,” which starts in March round these parts and is in full-swing by April and beyond in South Texas. By now you’ve heard stories of people observing snakes from their backyards to the highways and other places.

South Texas folklorist Hernán Moreno Hinojosa has told many a creepy tale about purported ghosts and phantoms that roam the Brush Country between Corpus Christi and Laredo and just north of the Rio Grande.
He writes about them in his books with a daredevil spirit of discovery and certainty that these manifestations are more than just a person’s impression or imagination, but true-to-life occurrences that make us shiver when we hear or see things we cannot explain.
These flashes of presences that do not exist (or do they?) are talked about by Moreno Hinojosa with a foreboding reverence in campfires and homes throughout the state and, indeed, the nation. Big Foot, El Cucuy or the bogey man, La Llorona (the Crying Woman). Werewolves, Moth Man, “Lechuzas,” “La Chupacabra” and other bizarre creatures seem as real as the stars in the sky for many people.
