In September 2020, the protracted conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh (NK) escalated. While the situation in NK has been tense since the late Soviet era, the 2020 autumn escalation was comparable in its scope to war over NK in the 1990s, which displaced hundreds of thousands and killed more 17,000 people. 1 After trilateral consultations, a ceasefire was brokered between Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan on November 10th , with several territories of the ‘crown of NK’ being transferred to Azerbaijan2 .
