If the weather holds and allows for it, Yellowstone National Park will open its East Entrance at 8 a.m. Friday, allowing access to and from Cody.
Significant snow remains at the high point along the route, at Sylvan Pass, so park officials said avalanche monitoring and mitigation could still trigger temporary closures.
The interior Yellowstone road section between Lake and Canyon villages is also set to open at 8 a.m. Friday.
A week from now, on May 14, the remaining interior park roads also will open, including the South Entrance to West Thumb, Lake Village to West Thumb and West Thumb to Old Faithful over Craig Pass.

Work that began last fall to upgrade the North Entrance station and road to Yellowstone National Park at Gardiner will continue through this summer and is projected to be completed by fall.
Until then, visitors and Gardiner business owners and residents may see some congestion on high traffic days in a year that park Superintendent Cam Sholly has predicted could be one of the busiest on record for Yellowstone. A busy summer could lead to backups regardless of the construction, said Terese Petcoff, executive director of the Gardiner Chamber of Commerce. The park is pretty good about getting visitors through the gates fast.
