A crowd of Trump supporters estimated to be in the thousands travelled to Washington on Wednesday to pressure lawmakers and Vice President Pence to overturn the results of the election. President Donald Trump told his supporters to go home after they stormed the US Capitol 
Washington: The US Capitol building has been put in lockdown and multiple congressional buildings have been evacuated following increasingly violent protests by supporters of President Donald Trump as the Congress began the debate on certification of President-elect Joe Biden s electoral victory.
According to CNN, shortly after 1 pm ET (11:30 pm IST), pro-Trump protesters pushed through barriers set up along the perimeter of the US Capitol Building, chanting USA! USA! and waving American flags, as well as flags reading Don t Tread on Me.

WASHINGTON â President Donald Trump called in the National Guard after violent protests broke out inside and outside the US Capitol on Wednesday.
One person was shot as protesters breached the heavily-secured building and forced the evacuation of the Senate and House of Representatives, forcing a delay in the constitutional process to affirm Joe Bidenâs victory in the November election.
A protester got up on the dais inside the Senate chamber and yelled âTrump won that election,â while several dozen are roaming through the halls, yelling, âWhere are they?â

U.S. Capitol police appeared to spray mace at some angry Trump supporters who were pressing toward the Capitol on Wednesday as Congress began counting the Electoral College votes to certify the win of President-elect Joseph R. Biden.
Video posted on Twitter of the clash showed Capitol police officers taking up a defensive ring in front of the building as flag-waving Trump supporters tried to mount steps toward the entrances. One officer could be seen spraying them with a small canister that emitted a stream.
