A lot of people have full medicine cabinets that are huge sources of clutter or worse, pose a danger for abuse of prescription medication.
To discourage recreational abuse, the California Highway Patrol and the SLO Opioid Safety Coalition partnered up to host a drug take back program at the CHP office on California St. from 10:00 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Anyone could stop by and drop off their expired, unused or unwanted medication, drugs, and vitamins with no questions asked.

A review into the health response to lead contamination of East Otago water supplies has found warnings to the affected communities were issued at the right time.
However, recommended changes include ensuring better reporting by water suppliers and a review of the process for public health units to get expert advice.

Whareroa Marae s environment manager is calling for urgent Government action over ongoing concerns about heavy industry contaminants in the area.
Yesterday the Bay of Plenty Regional Council confirmed it was investigating reports that PFAS compounds had been recorded in groundwater in Mount Maunganui s industrial area, on a site near the marae.
PFAS are a large group of man-made compounds that have widely used globally in a range of consumer and industrial applications.
The regional council s general manager of regulatory services Sarah Omundsen said the council was acting quickly to gain a fuller picture of the issue.

The Bay of Plenty Regional Council is investigating reports PFAS compounds have been recorded in groundwater in Mount Maunganui s industrial area.
The per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have been recorded near Taiaho Place - home to Whareroa Marae and a small residential community.
PFAS are a large group of manufactured compounds that have industrial and consumer applications.
