Due to the nationwide system outage of motor vehicle inspection services by its vendor Applus Technologies (Applus) impacting inspection stations and motor vehicle owners, the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is allowing a grace period for specific motor vehicle inspection requirements outlined below.
The RMV is working in close partnership with the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS), the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association (MCOPA), the Massachusetts State Police (MSP) and other stakeholders to mitigate the impacts of the outage.
The RMV continues to urge Applus to safely and swiftly restore services and provide additional information on the extent of the outage’s impact, which began on Tuesday, March 30. According to Anne OâConnor, the liaison from the Select Board, there have not been any responses to ads seeking applicants for the position. The three existing candidates had applied for the job before the advertisements ran in a variety of trade publications.
âThe whole goal is to help the [Police] Department â theyâre a little understaffed,â OâConnor said.
The Williamstown Police Department has been through a litany of issues since last summer, when Sgt. Scott McGowan filed suit against Police Chief Kyle Johnson and Town Manager Jason Hoch. McGowan alleged a series of incidents of sexual and racial harassment in the police station that, he said, occurred several years ago.

The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles doesn’t expect businesses to have the ability to issue inspection stickers until at least Saturday.
In a statement released Tuesday night, the RMV said inspections will not occur through Friday. The state has been unable to issue inspection stickers since March 30 due to a malware attack on its vendor, Applus Technologies.

Roughly 30% of the Massachusetts State Police force have not received their coronavirus vaccinations at clinics run by the agency, despite first responders becoming eligible to get immunized more than two months ago, The Boston Globe reported.
Citing data released in response to a request from the Globe, the newspaper reported 845 of the 2,847 eligible employees in the state law enforcement department had not received either doses of the two-shot Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines at one of the agency’s clinics in Chicopee, Framingham or Plymouth as of Friday.
