MILTON The Milton Council on Aging is working with the Discovery Center for Civic Engagement in Boston to offer people 55 and older from across the region ways to be involved in meaningful community roles once they retire.
The council will present an introduction on Zoom at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 6 to explain the free program.
The initiative includes both paid and unpaid opportunities engaging with nonprofits, government agencies and other organizations that can use the skills and experience of retirees. In this period of COVID, now seems a good time to reach out to retired people in the area who are looking to launch their second act in life and help them identify places they might become volunteers or be hired, Christine Stanton, director of the Milton Council on Aging, said.

SPRINGFIELD The owners of the former All Saints Church in the Forest Park neighborhood area are hoping its newly approved designation as a single-building historic district enhances plans for a major restoration project.
The Drama Studio, which owns and occupies the church property at 41 Oakland St., said approval of the All Saints Church Historic District by the City Council on Monday will help in its efforts to raise private and public funds for renovations.
