CAROLINA BEACH - The Carolina Beach Planning Commission will consider an amendment to the Town s code of ordinances regarding Rooming Houses during their April 8th, meeting at 6:30pm at Town Hall.
The issue was first brought before the Town Council in November of 2020 when residents expressed a concern about a house on Monroe Avenue serving as a multi-resident boarding house with a track record of police calls that concerned area residents.

Early Voting Underway Today For Cities, Schools Early voting for cities and schools that will require elections to fill positions on the Saturday, May 1, election date will begin today (Monday, April 19) and continue through Tuesday, April 27. Whitney Independent School District (ISD), the City of Whitney, the City of Hubbard, Covington ISD, the City of Mount Calm and Mount Calm ISD will all require elections. Early voting in both the City of Whitney and Whitney ISD elections will be held at the Whitney ISD Administration Building Board Room, located at 305 South San Jacinto in Whitney. Voting will be held from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday, April 19, through Friday, April 23. Extended hours will be offered on Monday, April 26, and Tuesday, April 27, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. On election day, Saturday, May 1, voting will be held from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. in the same location.

Two people were injured in a fire that damaged a condominium building in Santee Saturday morning, fire authorities said.
The fire broke out about 9:15 a.m. in a unit on Carefree Drive off Magnolia Avenue, said Santee Fire Chief John Garlow.
The first arriving fire crews saw heavy smoke and fire showing from the two-story building, he said.
Both patients were reported to be stable after being treated at a hospital. Further details on their injuries were not available.

One unit was heavily damaged by fire, while three other units suffered smoke and water damage, Garlow said.
The Red Cross was assisting four adults and two children who were displaced from their homes.
