PARIS, May 1, 2021 (BSS/AFP) – Chelsea are gunning to become just the second English team to reach the final of the Women’s Champions League but face a battle to overhaul Bayern Munich in Sunday’s semi-final second leg.
Emma Hayes’ team are well-placed to retain their domestic Women’s Super League title after having only lost one game so far this season, but after establishing domestic prominence the Blues are aiming to become a continental powerhouse.
Only Arsenal have reached the biggest match in European women’s club football, when they won the competition in 2007.

Wales have come to be a force to be reckoned with in international football.
Their men’s team, led by galactico Gareth Bale, have qualified for successive European Championships for the first time, while their women have also continued their steady rise up Fifa’s world rankings.
Now Welshwoman Laura McAllister is aiming to make a similar impact, only away from the pitch in the game’s corridors of power.
McAllister, a former captain of Wales women turned professor of politics and sports governance professional, is standing for election to the Fifa Council, arguably football’s highest decision-making body.

However, as Jessy Parker Humphreys writes, if their fortunes are to change, then Riise must be willing to take greater risks with her selection policy.
Ahead of England’s two fixtures against France and Canada, interim coach Hege Riise insisted that these games were less about figuring out who to pick for her Team GB squad, and more about getting England right.
After the two matches though, she is still left with large question marks over both.

On the same day as the Women’s Super League 10-year anniversary, 15 Blues stepped out to represent their home nations. The day kicked off with South Korea facing China in the second leg of the Asian Qualification playoffs in Suzhou. Ji So-Yun’s visiting team went into the tie 2-1 down and although they got off to a strong start after a good first half, they were unable to take the win, ending with a 2-2 draw.
