Local Government is the most fascinating word in our political lexicon. It indeed is supposed to brings order to the lives of our people of rural and non-urban areas and gives the society equal opportunity at the grass root level to partake in expending public finances on projects of construction and development of their own local needs instead of looking up to the Federal or Provincial governments for help. The concept is too good to recount its multiple benefits in this small space which are normally expected to accrue to the society in educating rural masses to know their rights and responsibilities towards their community. But to reap its full benefits there are many requirements which must precede before the society can earn its full benefits.

Karachi Pak Sarzameen Party Chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal on Saturday said the prevailing grim situation in Pakistan would start to improve overnight if the government and the opposition sincerely enforced the 3-Point well-thought-out plan presented by his party.
He expressed these views while addressing a meeting of the Central Executive Committee members and National Council at the Pakistan House. “In order to move the country in the right direction, powers and resources need to be snatched from the clutches of all the chief ministers and devolve them to the gross root union committee levels, as it would not only resolve basic public issues at their doorsteps but also restore public trust in the system,” said Kamal.

KARACHI: As many as 13 members from both sides of the aisle participated in the pre-budget discussions in the Sindh Assembly on Friday. The house, however, once again saw the two sides trading barbs, with the Pakistan Peoples Party legislators blaming the federal government for the poor economic conditions in the province and the opposition members holding the PPP government responsible for the problems faced by the people.
Coming down hard on the PPP government, Riaz Haider of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) said that the provincial authorities did not carry out any significant development work in the province, especially Karachi.
