PROVINCETOWN The Provincetown Public Pier Corporation continues to face legal challenges after reclassifying commercial fishermen’s vessels last year – especially from one person.
Provincetown resident and fisherman David Flattery was shocked last summer when he was no longer granted a commercial fishing slip at MacMillan Pier, a spot he held since 2015 for his 22-foot his shellfish vessel Bethany Lynn, he said.
Pier Corp. Board of Director members and Pier Manager Doug Boulanger made the decisions while trying to correctly apply local harbor regulations so that fishermen who are allocated slips at the town-owned pier, and are designated as full-time commercial fishermen, fit the qualifications in the regulations, according to their comments at public meetings.

PROVINCETOWN Should Race Point be renamed Meeshaun Point in honor of the original Wampanoag village of the region?
The Wampanoag Advisory Committee thinks so, and it wants the Provincetown Select Board to support the idea.
The support of the board would be the first step in a lengthy federally run process, according to town, state, and federal officials.
“Meeshaun is the original Wampanoag name of the village that was there in what is now P-Town,” Wampanoag Advisory Committee chairman Linda Coombs said.
Meeshaun was a part of the Wampanoag Nation’s 69 villages that spread throughout eastern Massachusetts and eastern Rhode Island. The name was given by Natives who lived on the land for over 12,000 years, she added.

The Provincetown Select Board has chosen Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse to be their next town manager. Morse lost a bitter congressional primary fight last year against Rep. Richard Neal during which Democratic officials supported a smear campaign suggesting Morse had made inappropriate overtures to young men.
The 31-year-old Morse was among three finalists for the Provincetown position. He had previously announced he was not seeking re-election after serving as Holyoke s mayor for 10 years; the Provincetown Select Board voted 5-0 in favor of hiring him Thursday night.
