ISLAMABAD: The federal government and political parties must hold thorough consultations to reach a consensus decision on reforming the Senate election process instead of opting for hasty legislation without weighing its pros and cons, a Free and Fair Election Network (Fafen) statement said on Friday.
“Fafen considers it unwise to rush through a constitutional amendment for allowing an open ballot with only a month remaining for fresh elections,” the statement said.
It came at a time when the government is all set to introduce a bill providing for open voting in the Senate elections, and the opposition is finding faults with the idea.
QUETTA: Employees of the Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR) continued their protest for the 25th consecutive day on Thursday for acceptance of their demands, particularly that of media professional allowance.
Members of the DGPR Officers Welfare Association and other officials have been boycotting official work for two hours daily to record their protest against what they called injustice to their department, which has been working for projecting the development activities under way by the government throughout the province.
The protesters hanged various banners on the DGPR office’s building and walls and hoisted black flags. They complained against discriminatory policies of the government towards them.

Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) lawmaker Syed Usman Mehmood expressed concern on Tuesday over delay on part of government departments in submitting replies to the queries put forth by both treasury and opposition members of Punjab Assembly.
He demanded a ruling for early submission of replies. PTI’s MPA Ahmed Khan Bhachar, who is also parliamentary secretary of local government and answered the queries of the lawmakers, seconded the stance of the PPP legislator.
Panel of Chairmen member Mian Muhammad Shafi directed the departments concerned to submit replies within the period prescribed in Rule 54 of “Rules of Procedure of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab 1997”.

Peshawar, Jan 27 (IANS) After an amendment was proposed in the Provincial Assembly of Pakistan s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), calling for permission by the relevant authorities to film the execution of a convicted sex offender preying on children and later make the video public to serve as a warning against such heinous acts, civil society has raised serious and strong concerns over the proposed amendment.
Civil society has said that it was against the constitutional provisions and the top court s verdict.
Raising questions on the proposed amendment to the KP Child Protection and Welfare (Amendment) Act 2010, members of the civil society challenged the legality of the amendment.
