Craig man sentenced for attempted sexual assault on a child

Special to the Craig Press A Craig man will serve probation and nine months in Moffat County Jail after pleading guilty to attempted sexual assault on a child and other charges. Angel Sanchez Silva, 22, of Craig, was sentenced last week in Moffat County Court before Judge Sandra Gardner, according to court documents. Prosecutors with the 14th Judicial District Attorney’s Office recommended a seven-year prison sentence following Sanchez Silva’s attempted assault conviction, listed as a Class 5 felony in court records, Assistant District Attorney Matt Tjosvold said. The man was ultimately handed a sentence of 90 days for attempted sexual assault on a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He’s expected to serve another 180 days in jail for prior criminal mischief, reckless driving and harassment convictions, according to his booking sheet. His release date is Jan. 11, 2022.

A Craig man faces more than 40 years in the Department of Corrections following an April 14 law enforcement raid at a residence on the 1000 block of School Street. The Craig resident also faces a Class 2 felony possession of Scheduled I/II controlled substance with intent to distribute between 7-112 grams, which carries a maximum of 8 years in jail, two years mandatory parole, and up to $750,000 in fines.

A Craig woman, who is representing herself in court, faces up to 40 years in prison on two felony charges following the death of her infant daughter. Kaylee Ann Messerly, 36, appeared via telephone in Moffat County Court Thursday morning in front of Judge Brittany Schneider, and was granted a two-week continuance in her case as she awaits possible admittance into an inpatient rehabilitation facility on the Front Range. Kaylee Ann Messerly Messerly was arrested on Friday, April 9 on two felony warrants following the death of her 18-month old daughter in early March following a search for Messerly and her two young children March 11 in the unincorporated area of Moffat County near County Road 54.
