Ben Holmes turned in a solid start in his first game in the Cubs organization. Holmes went five innings and gave up two runs on three hits. The part of his start that doesn’t look as good is that he walked four and struck out two.
The I-Cubs had a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth when
Jake Jewell entered the game. Jewell blew the save when he allowed a solo home run to Dustin Fowler. But he got the win when Iowa scored five runs in the bottom of the inning. Jewell’s final line was one run on two hits over one inning. He struck out two and walked no one.

Tennessee – The Montgomery Biscuits were one strike away from being no-hit in their season opener against the Tennessee Smokies. Two outs, two strikes in the 9th inning didn’t bother Rene Pinto, who sent the next pitch into the stands for the game-winning 3-run homerun.
Biscuits hold on to win 3-1, and are back in action on Thursday for game two against Tennessee.
After rain delayed the start of the 2021 season on Tuesday night, the Biscuits finally opened their first campaign in over a year with a bang in one of the most unbelievable wins in recent memory, taking down the Tennessee Smokies, 3-1, on Wednesday night at Smokies Stadium. The Smokies had a combined no-hitter entering the top of the ninth thanks to the efforts of starter Cam Sanders, Luis Lugo, Scott Effross, Bryan Hudson, and Manuel Rodriguez (0-1), as well as a 1-0 lead courtesy of an Andy Weber fifth-inning RBI-single.

SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. UPDATE (3:30 p.m.): Officials with the Tennessee Smokies announced Tuesday afternoon that the game later that night would be canceled, after a day filled with storms and more rain expected overnight.
The makeup date was still to be determined, officials said.
ORIGINAL: The Tennessee Smokies return to the diamond tonight after being shut down all of last year.
Minor League Baseball players have not played in a game since September of 2019. The team is thrilled to be back on the field.

If you’re a fan of minor-league baseball in Alabama, today is your long-awaited opening day. Actually, it’s probably the longest you’ve ever waited for an opening day.
It’s been so long, the last time the Southern League was in action there was a team called the Mobile BayBears.
Seems like forever ago, doesn’t it?
The BayBears, of course, have moved 350 miles north to Madison, Alabama, and are now known as the Rocket City Trash Pandas.
The Trash Pandas, the Montgomery Biscuits and the Birmingham Barons all begin their seasons tonight.
