Indices snap three-day winning run; broader market outperforms

Key equity indices snapped three day winning run and ended with modest losses on Thursday. A rise in US bond yields spoilt investor sentiment globally. The Nifty closed below the crucial 15,100 mark. Barring media and realty index, all sectoral indices on the NSE ended in the red. As per the provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, lost 598.57 points or 1.16% at 50,846.18. The Nifty 50 index declined 164.85 points or 1.08% at 15,080.10. The broader market bucked trend. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index added 0.48% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index grew by 0.8%. Buyers outpaced sellers. On the BSE, 1,602 shares rose and 1,374 shares fell. A total of 194 shares were unchanged.

HDFC, APSEZ, IRCTC in focus

HDFC has reduced its Retail Prime Lending Rate (RPLR) on housing loans, on which its Adjustable Rate Home Loans (ARHL) are benchmarked, by 5 basis points, with effect from March 4, 2021. The change will benefit all existing HDFC retail home loan customers. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zones (APSEZ) is acquiring the 31.5% stake held by Windy Lakeside Investment (an affiliate of Warburg Pincus) in Gangavaram Port (GPL). The acquisition is valued at Rs.1,954 crore and subject to regulatory approvals. IRCTC said the company will operate trips through Golden Chariot from 14th March, 2021 onwards. IRCON International has been awarded the work for replacement of mechanical signaling at various locations at Moradabad at the expected completion cost of Rs 187 .80 crore. The tenure for execution of the works is 24 months. This work has been awarded on competitive bidding basis among PSUs by the Northern Railways, Ministry of Railways.
