A banking veteran with over 30 years of experience, Onwughalu served as former group managing director (GMD) of legacy Mainstreet Bank Limited, and after the integration of the bank with Skye Bank Plc, she held the position of deputy managing director until July 2016, when the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced changes on the board of the bank.
She is currently the chief executive officer (CEO) of Blueshield Financial Services Limited. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Buckingham, a master’s in Corporate Governance from Leeds Metropolitan University, United Kingdom and an MBA from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Fidelity Bank Plc yesterday announced new board appointments to replace some of its outgoing directors who recently completed their tenure on its board in accordance with its internal governance policies.
According to a statement from the bank, Mrs. Aku Odinkemelu, its Executive Director, South Directorate, who was appointed to the board on August 4, 2014, will be retiring by December 31, 2020, while Chief Charles Umolu, Non-Executive Director, has completed his tenure and retired from the board on December 16, 2020.
In addition, Mr. Michael Okeke, a Non-Executive Director, has completed his tenure and retired on December 18, 2020. He was a member of various board committees, including the Board Corporate Governance Committee, which he chaired from October 2018 to December 2019.

Fidelity Bank has announced the appointments of new board executives to replace outgoing directors who recently completed their tenure in accordance with the bank’s internal governance policies.
Mr Mustafa Chike-Obi, Chairman, Board of Directors of the bank, said in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday in Lagos.
The statement listed the newly appointed board members to include Mrs Amaka Onwughalu, Mr Nelson Nweke and Mr. Chinedu Okeke, as Non-Executive Directors.
While the appointment of Onwughalu and Nweke have been approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that of Mr Okeke is awaiting approval.
He said that the bank looked forward to leveraging on the multi-disciplinary experiences of the new board members.
