LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. Maureen Williamson lost her husband Lew to COVID-19 just after Christmas.
The Williamsons are among more than half a million families in the United States the had to bury a loved one who died from COVID-19.
Now, the federal government is set to start reimbursing funeral expenses for many of those families.
Maureen plans to apply. I have all of the information from the funeral director, and I m going to resubmit and get that reimbursed. I mean, it s a little bit extra money in our pocket. Never expected to have something like this happen, says Williamson.

In the days before Christmas, a boy sat on Santa’s lap at a store in Scott Twp. and asked for his father back.
“Me and God have an understanding; I take care of toys and he takes care of angels,” Santa Claus said, according to his wife.
The man behind the beard became one of those angels Monday.
Lewis “Lew” Williamson of Scranton played Santa to many kids growing up in Northeast Pennsylvania, said his Mrs. Claus and wife, Maureen Williamson. He died from COVID-19 this week. He was 76.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS Viewing first-hand what he declared “the tremendous work being carried out by the dedicated team of volunteers”, Governor General C A Smith recently recognized Bahamas Feeding Network (BFN) founder Frank Crothers, O E, for his vision and generosity and helped bestow the first Frank Crothers Awards for Volunteerism on three recipients.
Three volunteers were singled out for the first Frank Crothers Award for Hard Work, Dedication and the Spirit of Volunteerism. Awards were presented to Sheryl Duncombe, Linda Poitier and Maureen Williamson by Frank Crothers in the presence of the governor general.
