Five beggars killed in Gujranwala accident

GUJRANWALA: Five beggars were killed in a road accident in Wazirabad on Thursday.
The beggars – Azeem, 65, Reshma, 60, Dildar, 25, Dhodomai, 26, and Roshni, 21, - were standing outside an Eidgah when a speeding car hit them, killing them on the spot. The police have started investigation.
CORONA SOPS: Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Sohail Khawaja said that corona SOPs would be got implemented at any cost.
Talking to newsmen here, he said that the citizens as a responsible person of the society should cooperate with the district administration and police in this regard. He said that there were 50 corona patients under treatment in the DHQ Hospital. He said that four corona patients had died during the last 24 hours.

KARACHI: To mark World Press Freedom Day (May 3) and to launch a policy paper on the Draft for Protection of Journalist and Media Professionals Bill, 2020, an event was held by the Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) and the Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI) at the Karachi Press Club on Monday evening.
Ghazala Fasih, who moderated the programme, in her introductory remarks said the history of the constitutional freedom of the press in the country is one of great struggle. It’s been 73 years since Pakistan came into being. Journalism played an important part in the freedom movement of the country. Unfortunately, after independence, the vision that Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah had for journalism was overlooked (usey nazar andaz ker dia gaya).

The media is facing growing censorship, attacks and harassment in Pakistan that are threatening freedom of the press, a committee of journalists said Monday.
The government said there are no curbs on journalists in the country.
But Pakistan has long been a dangerous place for journalists. There were 148 documented attacks or violations against journalists in Pakistan from May 2020 to April 2021 – an increase over previous years, according to The Dawn, the country’s English-language newspaper. It said these incidents included six murders, seven attempted assassinations, five kidnappings, 25 arrests or detentions of journalists, 15 assaults and 27 legal cases registered against journalists.
