An Indianapolis activist facing state attempted murder charges for his part in violent protests in Portland, Oregon last year is now also facing federal charges.
Malik Fard Muhammad, 24, was charged in federal court May 28 with unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm, engaging in civil disorder by obstructing law enforcement and using explosives to commit a federal felony, according to court filings.
According to the charges, Muhammad participated in the riots in Portland in September and October 2020 in which prosecutors say he intentionally jeopardized the lives of police officers, destroyed public property and encouraged others to commit violence.
Muhammad was arrested in April on eight warrants out of Portland after police said he threw multiple firebombs at officers and buildings during the protests.
