RAPID CITY/SPEARFISH, S.D. Local college graduates are getting the chance to walk across the stage during commencement this year.
South Dakota Mines will holds its ceremony Saturday morning starting at 9:00 a.m. in the Barnett Arena at the Civic Center.
375 seniors are graduating from the School of Mines.
And in the Northern Hills Saturday morning, about 400 seniors will walk the stage at Black Hills State University.
Commencement will be held at the Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness center.
Due to the pandemic, two commencement ceremonies will be held for the university’s three colleges.

SPEARFISH – Padriac McMeel has been named as the new athletic director at Black Hills State University, effective June 22.
McMeel has been the athletic director at Arkansas-Monticello since October 2018. Previously, he was a deputy athletic director and interim athletic director at Oakland University, an assistant athletic director at Kennesaw State and an assistant athletic director at Missouri State.
McMeel replaces Jhett Albers, who recently announced his retirement after 20 years at BHSU, including 15 as athletic director.

And we get done unloading and we re at the city dump, I grew up in a really small town, and he looks at me and he goes, Oh, look the city bar dumped all their bottles. And I was like, Oh. And he goes, Go pick up those bottles and put them on that tree stop. And by the time I get done, I mean, I m seven years old. I really didn t realize what he had planned. He had pulled out a single action Ruger 22 caliber pistol. And he goes, Well, it s probably time you learn how to shoot.
Stacy Schuelke named Meade School District Teacher of the Year

OPAL, SD – People often talk of country schools in terms of, ‘remember when.’ But for Stacey Schuelke, this years Meade School District Teacher of the Year, the country school is very much in the present.
“I grew up on a ranch near Marcus so I’ve always lived in the country. I attended country schools. It’s always been a passion of mine.
Stacy herself grew up attending country school K-8 at the United School in the Meade District. It was on to Faith after that for her high school years and then to Black Hills State University for a degree in education.
