Corporate scholarships announced for local students

Print Two dozen San Diego County high school seniors have been awarded corporate-sponsored scholarships in the first group of winners in the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Roughly 1,000 distinguished students have won the awards nationally, chosen from finalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition. Corporate sponsors provide scholarships for finalists who are children of employees, residents of communities the company serves, or who plan to pursue majors or careers the sponsor wishes to encourage. Most awards are renewable for up to four years of college and provide stipends from $1,000 to $10,000 per year. Some are a single payment between $2,500 and $5,000.

Economic developer pens article praising Frankfort, new leadership in European trade magazine

A Kentucky economic development specialist and Frankfort resident published an article in a European trade magazine showcasing new initiatives from Frankfort and Franklin County government officials. Brad Thomas works on economic development projects for Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives, an electricity cooperative that covers 87 of the state’s 120 counties. His article on Frankfort and Franklin County was published in the magazine Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) International, which is aimed at European business leaders. FDI International’s tagline is “Bridging the gap between economic development and site selection.” Formerly chief of staff at the Finance and Administration Cabinet, Thomas said he has written quarterly for FDI International since early 2020.
