Schools in Spring Grove, Northern York County closed Monday due to COVID-19 York Dispatch Three Spring Grove Area School District buildings and one Northern York County School District building were closed Monday due to an uptick in COVID-19 cases.  Spring Grove Area High School, Spring Grove Elementary and Paradise Elementary are closed after recording 14 COVID-19 cases across the three buildings in the last 14 days as of Friday afternoon, according to Spring Grove s website. South Mountain Elementary in Northern York County also closed after recording three cases in the last 14 days, according to a district communication Friday.  All four schools will reopen Tuesday, as the weekend counted as two days toward the three-day closure mandated by state guidelines. All other schools in both districts remain open for in-person instruction. 

B C sees seven additional Coronavirus deaths, 18 new variant of concern cases

British Columbia s COVID-19 numbers have once again risen. In a written statement this afternoon (March 3), Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said 542 cases of the virus were detected during the past 24 hours, bringing the grand total to 75,819.  Of the new cases, Northern Health recorded 44, bringing the authority total to 4,686 since the virus hit the region on March 14, 2020. Officials announced seven more deaths linked to the virus today, bringing the province s toll to 1,372. There are 4,654 active cases throughout B.C. with 246 people currently hospitalized, 64 of which are in ICU or critical care. Dr. Henry revealed there have been 18 new variants of concern cases, bringing the provincial total to 200, with 11 active. 

Students go for glory in Battle of the Books

Each year, students from across the Ketchikan School District test their skills in a bookish battle. The Battle of the Books program is presented through the Alaska Association of School Librarians. Each spring, AASLA releases a list of books tailored for student participants in kindergarten through 12th grade, and the students have the majority of the year to read all the books on the list. Then, in the fall, at the beginning of the next school year, students form teams and engage in “battles” (of) involving trivia about the books with other students from competing teams in their same grade bracket.

Austin ISD offering free curbside meals at 33 schools

Austin ISD offering free curbside meals at 33 schools By FOX 7 Austin Digital Team Published  AUSTIN, Texas - Austin Independent School District is serving free curbside meals on Monday, February 22 for children and their caregivers at 33 schools from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Meal packs are free for any child younger than 19 as well as those older than 19 who utilize special education resources or who are enrolled in school to complete the requirements for a high school diploma.  Meals are served curbside, families are advised to stay in their cars and not enter buildings during meal pick up. Families who come by walking/biking/transit may still receive food outside the campuses.  Curbside meals are chilled and served cold to be taken home and reheated.
