LUMPUR: The government must implement a community mobilisation strategy so that Malaysians, both in urban and rural areas, can have access to information about the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme and the importance of vaccination.
Malaysian Public Health Physicians’ Association (PPPKAM) president Datuk Dr Zainal Ariffin said with the widespread of information, the strategy will indirectly focus on groups that still had doubts and those who really wanted the vaccine.
“The trust gap (regarding the vaccine) is widening where the government and its agencies are concerned. Confidence is being undermined among communities. We need to engage with the government, they need to implement community mobilisation.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians with allergies must have their medical history assessed by their doctors before they get their Covid-19 jabs, say the Health Ministry and medical experts.
Experts also said that having allergies does not necessarily mean that an individual should not take the vaccine, especially if the allergic reactions are unrelated to vaccines.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said those who are to be vaccinated will need to disclose their full medical history to their doctors.
“A complete assessment will be done by the doctor on site, ” he said, adding that those who have allergies should first consult with the doctors.
We the undersigned view with much apprehension and concern the current status of the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.
Our national metrics paint a very bleak picture of Covid-19 pandemic management. Despite movement control orders (MCOs) and other health interventions, the daily reported cases are not decreasing.
The Cumulative Incidence Density (per 100,000 population) and the Infection Rate (active cases per 1,000 population) is not flattening, with the latest national Infection Rate registered at 0.879 per 1,000 population, meaning between eight and nine persons are actively infected for every 10,000 people.
The testing positive rate (rolling seven-day average) is rising, registering 8.9 percent on Jan 3,2021, well above the World Health Organization s (WHO) 5.0 percent benchmark of effective pandemic control and containment.
