A female peacekeeper from Malawi was killed in an attack by an Islamist militia in eastern Congo s North Kivu province on Monday morning, the U.N. and the Malawian government said.
A local civil rights group said separately that fighters with the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an Islamist armed group with Ugandan origins, attacked the village of Kilia, around 18km southeast of Beni in the province, killing at least five people. It was not clear if that figure included the peacekeeper. A peacekeeper was killed in an attack by alleged ADF in the Beni region, said MONUSCO, the U.N. peacekeeping mission, which has deployed around 12,000 troops to contain violence by more than 120 armed groups in the east of the country.

Malawi Defence Force (MDF) has announced the death of Lance Corporal Chitenji Kamanga who died Monday afternoon in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) while on a peacekeeping mission.
A statement from the Force said the 28-year-old died after armed rebels attacked an MDF base where she served under the United Nations’ Stabilization Mission.
MDF acting spokesman, Major Emmanuel Kelvin Mlelemba, said MDF had lost a courageous, hardworking and disciplined female soldier.
“We express our deep and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray that God give them strength and courage to bear this huge loss,” wrote Mlelemba in a statement, adding that her family had been informed accordingly.

Operating like a Sheriff, the Chilima visits have of late visibly sent chills down the spine of many officials and contractors whose projects are substandard or the monetary value of their contracts do not match the structures.
This week, the Vice President will visit a number of projects in the southern region that will take him to Phalombe and Mulanje among other places.

Zomba, May 4, Mana: Vice President Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima is impressed with quality of work at Domasi Community Hospital, Chancellor College and Cobbe Barracks in Zomba saying the tax payers’ money is worth it.
Chilima made the remarks on Tuesday when he visited Domasi where he inspected community hospital and Chancellor College where he appreciated works at Department of Economics and other college infrastructures which were constructed with African Development Bank (ADB) funding.
At the Malawi Defence Force (MDF), Cobbe Baracks, the Vice President toured roads project and a military clinic.
