Following sexual allegations leveled against former Malawi Broadcasting Corporation Director General Aubrey Sumbuleta, the Malawi Police Service have said they have instituted criminal investigations.
The past weeks, the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) released a report on the investigations the commission did regarding Sumbuleta that he was sexually harassing female employees at the state funded broadcaster.
At least 8 female employees complained to the board that Sumbuleta had been asking sexual favors from them which prompted some of them to discharge themselves form the Corporation.
However, Sumbuleta is denying the charges against him.
The commission further ordered that those who resigned from the Corporation should be reinstated and ordered the Malawi Police to institute criminal investigations against Sumbuleta hence the development.
Malawi Police say they have finally instituted criminal investigations on Aubrey Sumbuleta, former Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Director General.
Sumbuleta faces prosecution
Police spokesperson James Kadadzera has confirmed the development.
He also said the police have instituted another criminal investigation on MBC security officer who allegedly shot Blessings Nyondo, former Polytechnic student.
Kadadzera said the police were responding to recommendations by Malawi Human Rights Commission’s enquiry reports on the two matters.
