A 29-year-old driver was killed early Wednesday morning when he veered off a rural North County road and crashed into a tree north of Escondido, authorities said.
Another driver found Jose Eduardo Gomez Pavon dead in his wrecked car shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Old Castle Road near Indian Hill Road, just east of Interstate 15 in the unincorporated Hidden Meadows area, according to the California Highway Patrol and county Medical Examiner’s Office.
Gomez Pavon was headed east on Old Castle Road when, for unknown reasons, his 1999 Honda Accord veered across both lanes of traffic and struck the tree, according to the CHP and Medical Examiner’s Office.

Court Selects Contractor For Courthouse Repairs The Hill County Commissioners Court met in a special session Tuesday, April 20, and selected a contractor to make repairs to the Hill County Courthouse following February s winter storm. At the court s last meeting, commissioners opted to utilize pre-bid purchasing cooperatives approved by the state rather than extending the length of the project by seeking bids. A proposal from Basic IDIQ for $759,000 was approved by the court. The other proposal came from Belfor, which submitted a $1.13 million plan. The cost is expected to be covered by insurance. Reviewing other items placed on the special agenda, the court approved a $14,035.39 proposal to upgrade security cameras at the Waco Street Support Services Building and the county annex on Franklin Street.

Another Solar Company Plans Hill County Project The Hill County Commissioners Court met in a regular session Tuesday, April 13, and heard from another solar company planning a new development in Hill County. The court heard a presentation from Dominic Salinas, energy attorney and solar developer with Core Solar of Austin, regarding a planned solar project near Carl s Corner south of Farm Road 934 in the Itasca school district. The company is expected to submit an application for a tax abatement agreement to the county, and Salinas told the court that he was attending the meeting to introduce himself before submitting the paperwork.
