Animal stories on tap at New Salem Public Library
NEW SALEM Storyteller Rona Leventhal will share multi-cultural tales about animals at the New Salem Public Library on Saturday, July 17, at 6:30 p.m. as part of this year’s summer reading program.
Attendees are advised to bring a blanket or chair to this free outdoor event.
Orange Town Hall Restoration Committee resumes active fundraising
ORANGE With the COVID-19 pandemic waning, the Orange Town Hall Restoration Committee has resumed regular meetings, as well as active fundraising for a new lighting system for the Ruth B. Smith Auditorium stage.
ORANGE Organizers of the Lake Mattawa Association Cleanup Day are seeking volunteers to help beautify the lake on Saturday. Participants will meet at the Lake Mattawa boat ramp at 9 a.m. A second cleanup day is scheduled for Sept. 25, also starting.

Tributes pour in for ‘very special’ Chineham doctor Dr Liz ahead of her funeral A doctor, who was instrumental in creating the Chineham Medical Practice, has passed away last month. Dr Elizabeth Williams was one of the three Williams doctors prominent in the early days of creation of the Practice. Sadly, Dr Liz, as she was affectionately known as, passed away at St Michaels Hospice on April 13, Tuesday. She was 66. Her death came as a shock for her family and many Chineham residents who remember Dr Liz as a friend, more than a doctor. Paying tributes, Denise Andrews wrote on her obituary page on the Gazette: “Such sad news. You were not just our doctor but a friend.

ORANGE The group dedicated to breathing new life into “The Friendly Town” has completed its Orange Historical Walking Map brochure project to help residents and visitors alike better appreciate the area’s past.
The Orange Revitalization Partnership started the project, inspired by its president and former state Rep. Denise Andrews, in 2018, and welcomed a handful of people who explored Orange’s central downtown area, plotted out a pathway and picked which historical buildings to include in the brochure, ultimately deciding on structures relevant to the Industrial Revolution.
