Last Sunday, was a grey miserable day with intermittent showers threatening to cascade down on those of us naive enough to walk round the lakes. However, pet owners and seasoned keep-fit enthusiasts were not going to be put off, by rain drops that couldn’t make their minds up as to what they wanted to be. Be that a shower, light rainfall, full blown thunderstorm, or just an infernal nuisance. Like most British people, I too like being by the sea, river, streams, and lakes on bright warm days. However as other hay fever sufferers know, it’s simply a ‘no-no’ for the likes of us.
AN INTERACTIVE noise and air pollution map shows the areas of Andover which are most and least affected. The map can be filtered to show different types of noise pollution, including road noise and rail noise, and is colour coded to reflect how severe the pollution is. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the areas closest to major roads - in the Andover area, the bypass (A303), followed by Winchester Road, the A342, and the A343 - experience the highest levels of noise pollution. This makes Andover Business Park, Burghclere Down, and Picket Twenty, some of those worst affected areas - with noise levels of up 75dB.
A FORMER Labour council candidate has been accused of sexually abusing a child. Adam Buckenham stood in the Andover Downlands ward in the Test Valley Borough Council elections in 2019. He is also the former chairman of the Picket Twenty Neighbourhood Watch. He has been charged with 20 offences, including child sexual abuse, rape, taking indecent photographs of a child and voyeurism. The 45-year-old, who now lives on the Isle of Wight, is alleged to have incited the child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, to engage in sexual activity, including kissing, groping and oral sex. He is further charged with three counts of rape.
