(WMC) - Tennessee is now in the game. Vaccines were shipped to hospitals across the state. Memphis hospitals started vaccinating staff members soon after they got their vaccine shipments from Pfizer Thursday morning. Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare, Baptist Memorial Healthcare and Regional One Health started vaccinating Memphis staff members Thursday. While the day came a few days later than their colleagues elsewhere in the Mid-South, enthusiasm and thanks highlighted the day. “It’s been a hundred years since we’ve seen anything like this,” Baptist Dr. Steve Threlkeld said.

After returning from Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans earlier this year, Marilyn Davis became Shelby County’s patient zero or the first locally documented case of COVID-19 on March 8.  On Thursday, just over nine months later, she experienced another historic, pandemic milestone as she received one of the first doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine doled out to Memphis-area hospitals for their frontline healthcare workers.  “I was nervous at first, I’ve never had this much attention,” Davis said at Baptist Memorial Hospital in East Memphis, where she works as a cardiac monitor technician. “I just want to be here to let people know that even though I survived this, I’d rather take this vaccine than go through what I went through again.”
