Coward seizes opportunity in the crease
May 10, 2021
Chase Coward took full advantage of the opportunity when he was finally able to get in between the pipes for the Red Deer Rebels this season.
Coward was a spectator for the first 18 games of the season before playing in four of the final five games to wrap up the 2020-21 season. He made his first start of the season on April 19 against the host Medicine Hat Tigers in a 3-2 loss.
“I was super excited when I finally got told that I was going to get a start. I just wanted to go out there and prove to myself and to everyone else that I belonged in the league. I did that and then the starts kept coming in and the confidence just kept going up.”

The dominant team in the WHL’s Central Division during the 2020-21 season wrapped up their campaign in style on Thursday night.
The Edmonton Oil Kings finished off their campaign with an impressive 20-2-0-1 mark at Co-op Place in Medicine Hat as they came away with a 3-0 shutout over the Medicine Hat Tigers.
While the Oil Kings were able to capture their third straight Central Division title, the COVID-19 pandemic meant that they wouldn’t be able to showcase their squad in the playoffs for the second straight spring after reaching the Eastern Conference in 2019 before falling to the Prince Albert Raiders.

Regina’s Cole Sillinger made Team Canada’s roster, which was announced in April. However, a positive COVID-19 test derailed his opportunity to play with the team. “It’s really devastating not being able to play in the tournament,” Sillinger said. During his pre-tournament quarantine, Sillinger needed to provide three consecutive negative COVID-19 tests before being allowed to train ahead of the tournament in Texas. His results came back positive on his first test
