PHOTO: REUTERS ISLAMABAD: Member of National Assembly Ramesh Lal accused on Friday certain pharmaceutical companies of converting black money to white right under the nose of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP). In a meeting of the Standing Committee on Health chaired by Nisar Ahmed Cheema, MNA Ramesh Lal alleged that some pharmaceutical companies were carrying out money laundering under the disguise of importing raw material while clearly violating laws. Ramesha Lal, who is also a member of the health committee, said that more than a year has passed since the entire record of the case was sent to DRAP. However, he lamented, the authority has failed to explain it and present the record to the committee.

Photo courtesy NDMA Twitter ISLAMABAD: As the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has expressed fears that Covid-19 cases may rise during Eidul Azha holidays, China on Wednesday handed over 200 mobile oxygen concentrators to Pakistan. The oxygen concentrators were handed over to chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lt Gen Akhtar Nawaz by China’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong at a ceremony. The ceremony was attended by officials of the Chinese embassy, ministries of National Health Ser­vices and Foreign Affairs and NDMA. Speaking on the occasion, the NDMA chairman, on behalf of the people and the government of Pakistan, thanked the people and government of China for donating the oxygen concentrators.

Wide-scale probes launched into theft of govt s medicines

June 30, 2021 Federal and provincial investigation agencies have launched joint and separate investigations into the theft of medicines from public hospitals in Sindh a day after the National Task Force against Spurious Drugs of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) recovered a huge quantity of medicines during raids on shops and warehouses in the Katchi Gali medicine market and Hussainabad areas of Karachi, officials said on Tuesday. The administrations of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi have also initiated internal inquiries after DRAP officials claimed that medicines stolen from these health facilities were seized during raids, which were clearly stamped ‘Sindh government property’ and ‘NICVD’, but argued that the theft of medicines from their health facilities was not possible.
